Let's try to figure out how painful it is to remove a wisdom tooth and how long after that pain in the gum usually persists.

Removing a wisdom tooth (most often the lower one) is a rather complicated and very important event. Since the wisdom tooth (eighth) can have the most unpredictable number of roots with complex bends and a non-standard location inside the jaw, then, as a rule, such extractions qualify in surgical dentistry precisely as complex. And, of course, the most popular question asked by people who are faced with the need to pull out such a tooth - is it painful to remove it?

If tooth treatment has not led to the desired result, or there are certain contraindications to therapy as a whole, for example, a “cyst” on the root, improper location in the dentition, then resort to surgical removal. Practice shows that many patients do not understand the essence of the upcoming manipulation and are generally afraid to see a dentist-surgeon, suggesting that the tooth will be very painful to remove.

Many people in every possible way delay a visit to the doctor, fearing that removing a wisdom tooth is very painful.

However, it should be borne in mind that the consequences of suppuration of a wisdom tooth can be very, very serious: for example, pus can leave the root under the lower jaw so deeply that sometimes this leads to the development of an abscess, phlegmon or sepsis. Such complications can be life threatening. Unfortunately, many cases of death of patients are known precisely from the festering lower wisdom tooth.

Next, we will consider interesting and important points regarding the surgical removal of a wisdom tooth. We will also devote considerable attention to the issue of painfulness of the procedure and subsequent postoperative pains, which sometimes can last a week or more.

The basic steps of a simple wisdom tooth extraction

Removing a wisdom tooth can be simple and complex, which is reflected in the price lists of dental clinics. Let's talk about simple deletion first.

Simple removal of a wisdom tooth implies the use of only forceps and (or) elevators as surgical instruments. At the same time, there are no gum incisions, separation of the roots with something, or drilling a tooth from the bone. Since simple removal performed professionally and accurately is a less traumatic operation, it is after a simple removal of the wisdom tooth that the jaw and gums hurt the least.

With a simple pulling out of a wisdom tooth, only dental forceps or an elevator are used.

As with any operation to remove the tooth, the first step is to take an anamnesis, that is, clarify the patient’s possible allergies to drugs, the presence of concomitant diseases, assess blood pressure, etc. - All this information may affect safety during and after deletion.

At the second stage, anesthesia is performed. Most dental institutions remove wisdom teeth under local anesthesia, but there are clinics that testify to simple and complex extractions under anesthesia when a person is unconscious.

Local anesthesia by gum injection

It is interesting

The upper wisdom teeth can be “frozen" much easier and faster than the lower ones. This is due to the structure of the jaws: the upper jaw is not as massive as the lower jaw and has more holes where vessels and nerves exit. That is why for simple and often complex removals, they can only be done by chipping the gums in the area of the projection of the root apex of the upper eighth tooth. But after anesthesia for the lower wisdom tooth, there is a feeling that the entire side of the face is “taken away”: the cheek, half of the lip, the tip of the tongue and even the ear, and part of the throat. As a rule, 10-15 minutes after such total anesthesia, the actual removal is performed.

The third stage of simple removal of a wisdom tooth is the procedure for extracting it from the hole using forceps and elevators. Many people are less familiar with elevators, but in fact it is a simple tool.Such an elevator consists of a pear-shaped handle, a shaft and a straight or curved working part, using the principle of a lever that is attached to the tooth being removed or its root, and either the hole wall or the adjacent tooth serves as a fulcrum.

It looks like a dental elevator

Usually a simple removal lasts from 1-2 to 10-15 minutes (sometimes up to 30-40 minutes), after which they proceed to the final stage.

At the last stage, the infected parts of the tooth are extracted, which can accidentally remain in the gum after removing all the roots. At this stage, the wound is washed with antiseptics (according to indications), sometimes an anti-inflammatory and well-protecting agent (Alvostaz or Alvogyl) is put on.

After this, a number of doctors prefer to close the wound in order to bring its edges closer and to prevent the risks of re-infection and the development of spontaneous bleeding from the hole (this does not hurt, since the anesthetic is still acting). After the removal of the wisdom tooth, the dentist gives recommendations for the care of the hole.

Sophisticated tooth extraction: what to really fear

Patients who at least once experienced the procedure of complex extraction of a wisdom tooth (especially in a budget organization) in the future with great fear relate to tooth extraction in general, and for a number of reasons: due to, to put it mildly, increased pain of the procedure, its duration, trauma (a lot of blood) and difficult healing of the hole, when the gum hurts for a long time after removal.

Complex tooth extraction is usually a much more painful and unpleasant procedure than a simple one.

The main meaning of the “complexity” of removal is to pre-prepare the tooth, and more often its roots, for extraction with forceps or elevators. To do this, either part of the gum is excised and the volume of the bone tissue of the hole around the tooth is reduced, or the roots are separated. For these purposes, a drill with a set of special burs, as well as a number of additional surgical instruments, is currently used.

Clinical case: the wisdom tooth has not yet erupted and is in the gum.

Gum incision

In the cut, a naked wisdom tooth is visible.

At the final stage, the doctor sutures the wound for its speedy healing.

Why are people of the "old school" so afraid of removing their teeth?

In Soviet times, due to the poor equipment of surgical rooms and, often, the narrowness of professional skills, dental surgeons used separation of the roots with the difficult removal of any tooth (including wisdom) using a chisel and hammer. If the crown part of the tooth was partially or completely preserved, then its remains or all were broken off with forceps. Then, the doctor placed the working part of the bit on the inter-root septum of the extracted tooth, and the nurse (or the dentist himself) hit his handle with a hammer. With proper dexterity, it was possible to achieve root separation from one another in 1-2 blows, but sometimes the “knocking” procedure, as it seemed to some patients “on the head”, was delayed up to 1-2 hours! Fortunately, in almost all modern dentistry, this manipulation, which is dangerous in relation to injuries and fractures of the jaw and unpleasant in all senses, has not been carried out for a long time.

Since the wisdom tooth most often has a non-standard location and a large number of roots, an X-ray is always taken before complex removal. Many dental surgeons do not undertake the removal of a wisdom tooth without a picture, except in the most emergency situations, or when it is not possible to do it immediately for a number of reasons.

An x-ray wisdom tooth is clearly visible on the x-ray (it is hidden under the gum)

After collecting an anamnesis, the necessary preparations for removal (for example, removing a stone and plaque from a tooth being removed, rinsing the mouth with weak antiseptics, etc.), anesthesia is performed to make the tooth extraction process painless for a long time. Complex removal can take from 15-20 minutes to 2-3 hours.

After cutting the gums, separating the roots with a drill and extracting them from the hole, the hole is cleaned of “dirt”: bone residues, carious tooth pieces, root residues, sawdust. To do this, sharp edges of the hole are smoothed with bone nippers or a drill, the wound is washed with antiseptic solutions, a medicine is put in the hole (according to indications) and the edges of the wound are sutured. Recommendations are given or an appointment is made for a repeat appointment to monitor the quality of healing.

Particular attention should be paid to such a column in the pricelist as the removal of a retarded (non-cuttable) and a half-tooth (partially appeared) tooth. Usually this category reflects the common problem that many people face when a wisdom tooth cuts out with only one or two tubercles through the gum due to lack of space, or is located under the gum or in the bone.

With this arrangement, the wisdom tooth will cause intense pain.

This does not bring much concern to most people, but in some cases there are clinical situations when the wisdom tooth rests against the seventh tooth next to it, causing severe pain, as it “pushes” it. Pain can also occur when a partially emerging wisdom tooth is covered with a hood of the gum, which constantly and seriously suppurates. All this and a number of other situations require immediate surgical intervention.

The nature of the complexity of the intervention is determined by the dental surgeon in a specialized institution, and, as noted above, the removal never begins without an X-ray. The complexity of its removal depends on the nature of the location of the tooth in the hole. If the tooth is located completely in the bone and almost lies along the jaw, then the operation can take a long time, as the gums are excised, bone is cut out with separation of the crown and tooth roots, followed by phased extraction of it from the bone hole.

Modern methods of removing a wisdom tooth without pain

To remove wisdom teeth was not painful, there is a whole set of anesthetics that are chosen in various clinical situations. At the time, the drug Novocaine was very popular, which has low toxicity, but, as it turned out, has a high probability of developing various complications (for example, allergies, up to anaphylactic shock). Today, much more effective and safe drugs than novocaine have been developed for anesthesia.

Novocaine is an obsolete painkiller and is rarely used in dentistry today.

It is interesting

Cocaine anesthetic opened the era of pain relief, but due to the fact that it is addictive and very toxic, it is not currently used as a drug in dentistry at all.

Lidocaine is still used in many, mainly budget, dentistry, shows good results in strength and depth of action, superior to novocaine by 2-3 times. Allergy to it is rare, however, in order to achieve indicators of persistent and effective anesthesia, you have to take the amount of the drug, and not the quality of its administration.

As a means for administering lidocaine, conventional 2-5 ml plastic syringes with long and often blunt needles are used. The solution is injected into the anesthesia zone in a volume of from 2-3 milliliters to 10 or more in order to achieve a normal result.

Lidocaine for injection

With proper anesthesia, removing the wisdom tooth will not hurt. However, as you already understand from the above, after the operation, when the action of the anesthetic is over, the gum can hurt quite a lot and for a long time. Sometimes the throat and ear also hurt.

On a note

Many patients have experienced (and often still experience in budgetary clinics! ”) The“ joys ”of Soviet anesthesia, starting from the sensation of“ crunching ”during tissue rupture during the introduction of novocaine or lidocaine into the“ freezing ”area and ending with complications in the form of dizziness, palpitations, fear, etc. This often occurs due to the fact that a drop of adrenaline is still added to the solution “by eye”, which helps to keep the anesthetic solution in the injection area for the period necessary for removing the wisdom tooth. But the dentist can mistakenly add too much adrenaline (for example, one and a half drops - this is already 50% higher than normal), which leads to characteristic unpleasant and even dangerous moments.

To avoid all the "charms" of working with Soviet anesthetics, dentists prefer to choose the articaine series drugs (Ultracain, Ubistesin, Septanest and others), which are available for carpul anesthesia. The carpule with anesthesia is charged into the syringe and the injection technique is practically painless. At the same time, the anesthetic in the carpula is already diluted with adrenaline in exactly the dosage necessary for that other case of removal (most often 1: 100 000).

Anesthetic is usually administered using a carpul syringe.

If a long-term operation is not required, as well as patients from risk groups (elderly, children, pregnant women, disabled people) anesthesia is given in carps, but without adrenaline or with its increased dilution, for example, 1: 200 000. An drug of the amide group Mepivacaine can also be an alternative. (Scandonest), which does not cause vasodilation in the injection zone and is released without the content of vasoconstrictor substances (adrenaline), which is also suitable for debilitated patients.

What can you expect after removing a wisdom tooth

After removing a wisdom tooth, many patients encounter pains of incomprehensible (for them) origin, when neither the cause of the problem is clear, nor how much time it will hurt. In most cases, the occurrence of such unpleasant consequences is directly related to the trauma of the tissues surrounding the extracted tooth and the hole itself.

Injured after removing a wisdom tooth gum can be seriously and quite sick for a long time.

However, even after complex removal, sometimes no pain occurs, which is determined by the pain threshold of a person, individual parameters and techniques during the operation.

A small percentage of patients after the removal of a wisdom tooth complains to the doctor that the gum and cheek in the extraction area and even the teeth adjacent to the hole have been sore for a long time. Often in the early days extraction of the lower wisdom tooth pain when swallowing, sore throat, ear and even the whole head.

The cause of the problem is almost always determined by the fact that removal is trauma, and trauma is associated with an inflammatory process that occurs with a certain set of symptoms, two of which are swelling and pain. This, of course, is unpleasant, but the “swelling” on the gum and cheek, especially if it is small, passes by itself after a couple of days. Enough after you pulled out a wisdom tooth, strictly follow the doctor’s recommendations.

Torn wisdom tooth

Sometimes pains of a different nature after they pulled out a wisdom tooth can last a week or longer. In rare cases, pain is so severe that a person takes painkillers constantly.

Sometimes an acute pain that extends into the ear or temple, develops after removing the wisdom tooth only after 1-3 days: malaise appears, the body temperature rises, there is an unpleasant smell from the hole. This indicates the development of a disease such as alveolitis - inflammation in the hole.

It is interesting

Usually the most serious thing happens suppuration in the well after removal of the lower wisdom toothwhen it becomes painful to swallow on the removal side, opening the mouth gradually becomes difficult, the gums and cheeks are very sore, the pain often gives to the ear. In such cases, the temperature can rise to high values, and the purulent process can go deep into the spaces of the lower jaw with the development of serious complications that are even life-threatening: osteomyelitis, abscess, phlegmon, lymphadenitis, sepsis and others. Urgent see a doctor!

In rare cases, a dangerous suppuration of the hole with the development of life-threatening conditions is possible.

A timely visit to a doctor will help to avoid serious complications. In most cases, it will only be necessary to clean the hole from an infected blood clot, fragments of a removed tooth, bone tissue, traumatic gum, bacterial contamination. Also, if necessary, can be performed antiseptic treatment with the formulation of drugs (Alvogyl), suturing the edges of the wound with the appointment of anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial agents and antiseptic rinses.

So that after removal the gum does not hurt

In order to avoid severe pain after removing a wisdom tooth and to prevent the development of alveolitis and other complications associated with suppuration in the hole and poorly healing gums, the dentist-surgeon gives standard recommendations, or also additional ones that are only suitable for a specific clinical situation.

For the speedy healing of the gums after the removal of the wisdom tooth, it is important to follow all the doctor's prescriptions.

After simple or complex removal, it usually takes 20 minutes to hold a sterile gauze swab with your teeth to stop gingival bleeding. Do not eat should be about 2-3 hours. This is especially true after the removal of the lower wisdom tooth, since there anesthesia lasts for several hours, and you can very strongly bite your “frozen” cheek.

In the first hours after removal, it is recommended to take pain medication (Ketanov, Ketorol, Nise or others), and on the day of removal to refrain from smoking, drinking alcohol, spicy and hot food, physical activity and hot water procedures (bath, sauna, hot shower) for prophylaxis of hemorrhage. In some cases, these recommendations extend for a couple of days after removal, since an increase in blood pressure in some people provokes delayed bleeding, which can be difficult to stop on your own.

Immediately after the surgical procedure, you may need to take painkillers.

According to the testimony, the doctor prescribes antiseptic rinses with decoctions of herbs (chamomile, sage), warm solutions of potassium permanganate, furatsilina, anti-inflammatory and protective gels are often prescribed for home application on a sterile gauze swab per well: Metrogil Denta, dental adhesive Solcoseryl paste or dr.

If the removal of the wisdom tooth is carried out due to severe suppuration around the tooth according to the "flux" type, or the operation is complicated, the doctor prescribes an antibiotic for 5-7 days to fight purulent infection and prevent repeated complications.

Note Tips

Does it hurt to remove a wisdom tooth, how long a gum can hurt after its removal, why all this happens - most of you have already received answers to these questions. For those who want to dig deeper, below is a brief overview with helpful tips.

The photo shows an inflamed gum with a wisdom tooth located under it.

  1. It will not be possible to completely avoid even slight pain during the administration of anesthesia in most clinics, since not all dentists have new computerized syringes with quality control of the drug.
  2. Some patients may not even have a so-called “imported” anesthetic. That is why the doctor often solves the problem by increasing the amount of the drug administered, using 2-3 or more carpules for pain relief, which slightly increases the risks of developing complications from anesthesia.
  3. After removing a wisdom tooth, almost everyone needs painkillers to prevent pain. It is better to take the first pill before the moment when the action of anesthesia is over, in about 30-40 minutes, so that it already starts the action.
  4. The more difficult the removal, the more often complaints about pain in the hole after removing the wisdom tooth. This is due to significant injury to the tissues around the well.

Review of "experienced"

“Literally about a month ago, I experienced the removal of the upper right G8. I can say that this is more scary than painful. The surgeon gave me an injection. The injection itself was sick, since I had already come with a slightly swollen gum, but it was possible to endure. As the doctor said, my roots were not very - they grew in different directions and almost in the maxillary sinus, so they literally took them out to me in parts. I did not feel pain at the same time. Then the doctor sewed up the wound. After about an hour, the injection began to recede and then the most severe began, there were severe pains. The next day, it was also very painful, especially when I tried to eat something. Saved by Ketorol. Now everything is fine. ”

On May 21, the wisdom tooth was removed, the eight. The tooth along with the root resembled the shape of a shrimp. After removal, sutures were placed on the gum. On the same day in the evening the temperature rose 39, then at night the same. The next day it was less - 38 was once in the evening, and everything was gone, but the gums still hurt. I drink Kitolol. Tell me, what should it be after removal? The seams, the doctor said, will be removed in a week.

It was a difficult removal of the lower left wisdom tooth, an X-ray was not done at all, it was not completely cut through and it had caries. It just didn’t bother you, if you didn’t start picking it, they said it was better to remove it. They injected pain medication from different sides, felt the injection, it was a little unpleasant. Then after a few minutes everything was numb, transferred to the next room, they said that they were being removed here. The doctor and his assistant were hammering a chisel and a hammer (I don’t know what they are called in medicine), the swabbing was unpleasant - as if they hit on the head, I thought that the neighboring teeth would fall off too. Then they slowly removed, somewhere in 30 minutes. They said that I was lucky, they say, some re-go to such deletions. The tooth turned out to be very large, even the doctors were surprised - 3-4 cm, more than what you have in the pictures. The doctor put medicine in the hole, disinfected it with something unpleasant, I almost vomited from the unpleasant smell. They put a cotton swab, gave recommendations, prescribed a prescription for suprastin, dexalgin and some other antibiotic, but they told him to buy it only with complications. After several hours, anesthesia was released at home and fun began, he was saved by painkillers, he ate nothing all day, it was good that he had guessed to eat before removal. Sometimes it hurts already 5 days, it hurts to eat, sometimes swallow. In a word, nothing nice.

Yesterday I removed the lower wisdom tooth, and the doctor, without waiting for the action of anesthesia, violently and quickly pulled it out to me ... There was unbearably hellish pain, stuck it with bandages, didn’t process it, the blood was lashed - this hell is this low-cost dentistry! Without exaggeration, but the pain was so severe, I even screamed at home and did not know where to put myself. My husband stabbed me with painkillers, after only an hour I began to feel a little relief. There is a big swelling in my mouth, I hope that this will all end soon.Good luck to everyone who is going to part with the eight, patience and health! )))

I removed the lower "eight", injected an anesthetic (they waited until half of the tongue, half of the lips and cheek were numb). I was very afraid that it would be painful while they pulled it out, everyone was waiting for it to be painful. But it didn’t hurt at all, they quickly removed with a tool similar to a large knitting needle with a handle, laid an antiseptic, and a large swab on top. They didn’t sew the gum, but they carefully pushed it into the hole. The second day - there is no anesthesia anymore, the gums pull painfully, but it’s painful and tolerable to swallow from the other side. The doctor said that this is the norm, a couple of days have to be patient. You can drink painkiller. The first 2 days do not rinse and do not climb there at all.

Six months ago, the left lower eight was removed, the day before yesterday - the right one. The first time they removed 15 minutes, after 20 minutes it became so painful that even turning the neck was accompanied by tears. It was impossible to swallow, with a lifted head I threw a ketorol down my throat, tried to swallow for another 5 minutes. After the pill, the pain almost completely disappeared, but the next day an unpleasant surprise awaited: ulcers under the tongue appeared, as from stomatitis, only without fever. I went to the doctor, was treated, for another 6 days I could not eat anything but kefir.
The day before yesterday there was the same procedure ... Removed in two minutes, no more. It was only in the evening that wild chills and cramps appeared, the temperature rose to 39.2. An ambulance came, pricked. At night, the temperature returned, but less - 38.5. The next day, too, did not pass. I'm already afraid of what will happen next.

Everything is described so terribly. Removed the top eight, it crumbled very much, removed about 15 minutes. I did not feel pain during removal, only a crunch. After that I went to work, after the anesthesia passed, the hole drowned a little, but everything is tolerable. I did not drink any painkillers, there was no temperature, I ate only a little in the evening. Everything will be fine, don’t be afraid of anything, the main thing is to turn to a good clinic.

Removed about 7 hours ago. The doctor said that the case is complicated, because large tooth (more precisely, the roots). He took anesthesia for a fee (245 r). Injected - not painful, a little unpleasant. Started removing, said don't be afraid of crispy sounds 🙂

First, the tooth crown broke off (the tooth was rotten), but the doctor pulled out the root in about 8 minutes. It was not painful, this is a fact (I am convinced once again that it usually hurts only after that you don’t need to be afraid of the removal itself). The blood still flows in periods, but only a little bit (not bleeding, there is a clot, so there are residual effects in the form of weak staining of saliva).

The doctor came across a good one (by the way, a state. Clinic, an emergency room on Saturday), a young man.

During removal, dizzy, darkened in the eyes, allowed to lie down with ammonia, everything went quickly. Psychological, it often happens to me.

Once again - do not be afraid! In the courtyard is not a stone age, is removed almost always well and quickly.

On the negative: temperature 37.5, trembling. But, again, I had the same thing after removing the stone from the duct of the salivary gland (individual reaction). Will pass)

Treat your teeth IMMEDIATELY! And be healthy 🙂

Removed the bottom eight month and a half ago.I didn’t get sick, there was no inflammation, I had a completely healthy tooth, I just didn’t get out of the gum, the remnants of food fell under the gum and an unpleasant smell appeared. I decided to remove it. I came to the clinic, had an x-ray, anesthesia and something else. It didn’t hurt. Of course, I had to cut through the gum, pulled it out for a long time, because I didn’t cut it. I cleaned everything, removed the cyst, inserted a sponge with medicine into the hole. There is something with iodine in smell and taste. I didn’t sew either. Prescribed antibiotics required. For pain medication - drink what usually helps from the head. I drank ibuprofen. The pain from the operation to the end subsided after a week. But I don’t remember the pains of hell, it was rather uncomfortable to pull and sleep, I can’t do it on my back, and it’s sick on my cheek. Now, the only problem is pain when very hot or cold food falls into that place. Together with this, a nearby tooth reacts. The hole is being tightened.
I want to say one thing, do not be afraid, you will have to endure the healing period a little, but it is better to suffer a week than to suffer from pain and discomfort for months. If there are the same problems with the other eights, without hesitation I will go to the deletion. And choose good clinics. Save a little, but you can get plenty of fun.
    Be healthy!

The lower 48 tooth erupted at the age of 45. Prior to this, she removed all 8s at age 18. And this one got pain on the weather and secretions. I asked the doctor what the discharge was, and she replied that it was a lubricant. So I lived with grease for 13 years. I didn’t notice how the tooth closed with gum. When prosthetics I ask the doctor about painful. And he laughs: what kind of lubrication? It turns out 13 years I poisoned my body. Now they removed it: they cut the gum, sewn it up with absorbable sutures, but they could have warned that it would freeze as the anesthesia began to recede. I would have drunk painkiller in advance. Could say: do not sleep on this cheek, because warms up at night and bleeding begins. Today is the 6th day, the dressing will be done on the 8th, i.e. change gauze with medicine in the hole, where it is not sewn up. Then you have to swallow the medicine. But everything passes, and this will pass. I wish you all good health and patience.

Tonight I removed the upper right 8. It shook so that the poor doctor was scared. Her knees rang with fear, could not hold her hands (this is in the literal sense). The doctor put 1 injection of ultracain and went for a walk, leaving me to myself. After 8 minutes he came, and just removed my aching tooth. Removal took exactly 1 minute ... Fortunately, it grew evenly)) It was not painful at all, the only thing was pressure on the gums, as if they were pressing with a finger.

I went to the payer for 3 days. Chipped the gum and cleaned the hole. He said that the pain should gradually go away. Well, I’m waiting ... I will never remove the 2nd wisdom tooth. It’s just tin. The next day she climbed onto the wall, was saved by painkillers. After a week of non-abating pain (the nerve was touched, if the roots are in different directions - this is not surprising) she crawled to the doctor. Appointed an effective thing - physiotherapy, cold laser heating. Each time the pain goes away. The main thing is to keep a hole with a blood clot, not rinse, do not chew on the side of removal, reduce physical activity. And if the pain hurts, consult a doctor. Health!

She removed wisdom teeth in a modern way - with bone grafting and suturing of the wound in her mouth. Very satisfied. Nothing hurt after and there was no swelling. 4 wisdom teeth were pulled out at once for 1 time. The artificial bone material was put in a hole in the teeth, and it was sutured. When stitching, nothing gets into the hole from the tooth, and the artificial bone quickly heals and everything is restored very quickly. This is done in many clinics in Europe. I advise those who are afraid to remove and value their health and time.

4 days ago removed the bottom eight. Removal was difficult with drilling, then 1 stitch was applied. Blood flowed for 9 hours until it inserted a collagen sponge to stop the bleeding. There was practically no edema, the temperature was 37.3 after 3 hours, the next day in the morning 37.4. My throat was sore, it was impossible to open my mouth normally, Ketanov drank, on the second day of a bath with chlorhexidine or tincture of eucalyptus. On the third day, the adjacent tooth (7) began to hurt, and it was completely sealed with the canals. A white substance formed in the hole, the surgeon said, it should be so. In short, everything is okay, you can endure, but the 7th began to strain, this is not a very pleasant moment, is it really necessary to do something with it?

Three days ago, he immediately removed 4 wisdom teeth according to the technique with bone grafting! I must say that I read reviews on the Internet, and was terribly afraid! But everything went well, thanks to the doctor for professionalism! After removing the teeth, the holes from them were filled with artificial bone, processed with a laser and sewn up. Feeling of discomfort now, but no pain, no temperature, no blood flowing. I think everything has already healed. The mouth opens well, the throat does not hurt. As a result, I understand that I was very much afraid in vain, I did not regret the money for nothing, and removed it with replanting! Recommend.

He was a young doctor, he did everything quickly, he delivered a thermonuclear injection, half a head was taken)) He didn’t cut it, he didn’t cut it into parts either, he pulled it out as a whole. In total, along with the 15 minutes that I waited for the anesthesia to work, it took about 25 minutes. The tooth was large, the hole was huge, the jaw bone still hurts, but there are no inflammations or swelling of the soft tissues of the gum itself. Periodically I go, I show up. But already tired of painkillers. We still have to tear the top one, also a figure eight, I don’t know when I’ll make up my mind now.

Three hours ago, removed the lower left "eight." They removed the hour with a little, it didn’t hurt at all, but from the fear that it would hurt, I was pounded and twisted in an armchair. They drilled, broke, hollowed, as if with a puncher, that they just didn’t do it, but it all crumbled. As a result, pulled out in parts. They put the medicine and poured it. The doctor prescribed antibiotics, suprastin, nise and imudon. It seems that everything is fine, only the anesthesia began to recede, and I climbed onto the walls again, as they say, I waited for pain) I drank a nise, it seems, let go, I wait for the next attack. Exactly a year ago, I removed the lower right “eight” in 10 minutes, hoped, and then it will give a ride, no more. In general, I want to say: heal, people, teeth on time, and everything will be fine, and most importantly, be afraid - it's all bearable! (Giving birth a hundred times more painful). It hurts so much, I wanted to yell, I can’t drink painkillers, since I feed the baby with milk. But everything went well, thanks to the wonderful doctors in 1 honey. (St. Petersburg). Although my acquaintances scared me here with stories about the extraction of their teeth, and my mother suffered terribly too. They hollowed a tooth, probably 40 minutes, until it came out. He was also big and was sick terribly. And my bottom one came out quickly, and the right one even crunched a little. It took 40 minutes. Wounds were sutured with absorbable sutures. After the withdrawal of anesthesia, everything also hurt, and the next day it hurt, but she asked for pain medication only once. They took a picture after and physiotherapy. Prescribed antibiotics and exercise therapy. Now it’s better, you just have to come for a checkup. Do not be afraid, the main thing is to find an experienced surgeon, and everything will be fine.

Oh, I was very afraid of dentists until recently, because anesthesia did not always take me during treatment and almost all the time I felt pain and discomfort. Last year, it turned out that I moved to live in Moscow and, accordingly, changed my dentist. On the recommendation of a friend, she turned to the clinic and realized that going to the doctor can be not only painless, but also pleasant. When two wisdom teeth were removed, I asked to give me anesthesia, and I had anesthesia, in which I remained conscious, but the fear completely disappeared. So now I and the fear of dentists are two completely opposite things.

The process of tooth extraction took 3-4 minutes, didn’t feel anything at all, it was somehow strange that there were so many experiences, but in reality everything turned out to be very painless and quick) After an hour, the effect of anesthesia began to decline. Since you can’t eat and drink for 2-3 hours, I had to suffer a little. Hello! Damage to the joint with complex removal (especially with excessive pressure on the jaw) is quite possible. I think that you already had problems with the joint (its clicking when chewing), but for this period of time they have worsened. Be sure to contact the maxillofacial surgeon, it is better to another - an independent doctor who will focus on the diagnosis of a possible problem in the TMJ. As for the gums: in absentia I can say that after removal (especially as you describe it), the crushed and “torn” tissues are not pulled together as quickly and not always as smoothly as we would like. Hence the "bump", although an examination in the oral cavity would do well. Be sure to see a doctor so that healing goes away without problems. Thanks for the question.

Hello! So far, according to your symptoms, it looks like either caries or the first signs of pulpitis, but the appearance of pain when you press a tooth is somewhat confusing. Maybe this is a combination with difficult teething. Personally, I prefer normally erupted wisdom teeth to heal as expected. Their treatment is often not as complicated as many patients think. But if your figure eight did not fit normally in the dentition, causes a bite of the cheek, does not cut through to the end, etc., then it makes sense to think about removing it, although the last word is here for your doctor.

In general, for wisdom teeth the question is “how to deal with them?” very individual. There are many doctors who advocate removal based on the principle of a well-known phrase from the film: “Cut to hell without waiting for peritonitis!” That is, even correctly located wisdom teeth are proposed to be removed for prevention, since in the future they often cause problems. I personally advocate a different approach (like many doctors): first examine the tooth, analyze its condition, understand the patient’s position and come to the final conclusion - what to do.I explained this to you a possible approach, and it is up to you and the doctor to decide whether to treat or remove. By the way, bypassing 3-4 doctors for a full-time consultation, you can get completely diverse options for solving the problem.

Deleted the left bottom eight and seven. The seven was necessary, and the eight for the company: uncut, horizontally lying. They injected him three times, pain on the eight was still felt, but bearable. The seven were removed in 3 minutes, the eight were removed for about an hour: large tooth, crooked roots. They cut the gums, sawed from the bone, pulled out in parts. It sounds creepy, but if you don’t open your eyes, it’s like nothing)) Neatly sewn up, it looks decent.

A few hours after the operation, it began to hurt. Enough for one tablet of pain medication. Edema peaked at day 3, then began to subside. The temperature held 37.1 for two days. On the third day, the unpleasant smell from the wound and numbness of the cheek and lips were worried. It seemed to the surgeon, he said, everything is OK, there are no signs of inflammation, it’s just better to rinse, food remains. I did as I said - the smell, it seems, disappeared. The numbness passed by itself when the swelling began to subside.

Today is the 6th day. The jaw aches occasionally. Not much, but intrusive.

To everyone who is afraid, hello)) Why are you afraid? )) So if you read it, therefore, before you is the obvious and nearby prospect of removing the eight and you are afraid, otherwise you would not read it. So, I am an adult, 40 years old, brought up in Soviet times by Soviet dentists with clear stomatophobia. I’m afraid of dentists, no, I’m not afraid, but I’m just going into some kind of frenzy and I can’t help myself. But today, pressed by circumstances and the obvious fact that if I do not delete it, I will lose the seven as well, I went to remove the top eight, like a lamb to the slaughter. I re-read a bunch of sites, reviews, I know so much about the removal procedure that if I were on a desert island, I could easily do everything myself)) But this is humor, but in fact ...

Arriving at the appointed time, I made an incredible effort to myself, so as not to fall down immediately under any pretext and entered the clinic. I declared straight away that if right now they wouldn’t pour something on me or turn off my consciousness, driven away somewhere by fear closer to my ass, then I can’t vouch for myself and am ready to prove it right away, crashed into a swoon. Apparently, I’m not the only one, they looked at me with the smile of a doctor looking at an idiot, splashed a valocordin, put him in a chair and, under the clatter of my jaws (from fear), began to fill out some pieces of paper that I voluntarily signed up for and responsibility understand and accept))

The doctor, with amazing understanding and with a big heart, even allowed me to cling to music so that I would not hear the fuss in my dental nooks, and began to priestly ... Everything, this is a rubicon, there is no turning back, and, having relaxed, I surrendered myself to the will of fate.

They made an injection, it doesn’t hurt at all, the only thing you will feel is a light injection, and then in the palate. Everything, there will be nothing more, do not wait, no sensations at all. Seriously, it doesn’t hurt, apparently, the anesthesia is such that I could easily remove half of the molars and I would not understand anything. In general, it does not hurt, not a little, not a little, in general! I was surprised, drove more, in an hour I was already sitting as happy as an elephant, and felt like Columbus who discovered America)) That's it. The end of the story. I bought Nise, a bunch of pills prescribed by a doctor, and I'm sitting at work. Go and don’t be afraid, you won’t feel anything, I assure you.

I deleted the bottom eight, lying horizontally on Wednesday May 11th. A small piece, however, peeked out of the gums. In principle, she did not bother me at all, with the exception of hygiene points - the food got into the gap between them. Having read and seen enough about these teeth, I realized that sooner or later I had to part with it. I took a picture and went to the clinic. But they told me to go to the regional hospital at the ChLH. I cried that everything was so serious, and I calmed down for almost a year. But this tooth was a splinter in my brain, but there wasn’t enough courage.

And now, almost a year after the picture, my gum was inflamed, it began to swallow, chew painfully. And I realized - the time has come. I went to a private clinic (to another) and the doctor, looking at my picture, said that he would do everything. Everything went in 25 minutes. Even the injection itself was not painful to do. All trembled with fear. She felt pressure, rattle. Then she opened her eyes and realized that they were already suturing (by the threads that loomed before her eyes) - it did not hurt. Then it hurt, of course. There was no talk of food at all.

Today (on day 5) only the loaf in tea was able to soak. I couldn’t open my mouth, everything seemed to hurt: both the tongue, the neck, and all the teeth on this side, it was painful to speak, swallowing was unbearably painful. 2 days in a row I went to the doctor, he felt everything: both outside and inside. Prescribed cefriaxone prick. I still miramistin irrigate the cavity and absorb the laripront. Today is the 5th day - I still feel aching pain (tolerable) in the gum, sometimes in the ear and at some point in the throat. But as the doctor said - you need to open your mouth to fill the tissues and muscles with blood supply, in general, so that they work. Hope it will be better soon.

Hello! The duration of pain after tooth extraction does not always fit in 1-2 days. It’s different for everyone - some have faster pains, others slower. In addition, any effect on the healing hole (mechanical, chemical, temperature) can cause irritation, which is accompanied by painful sensations.

If, apart from aching pains, there are no other symptoms that may cause a suspicion of a deviation from the norm (alveolitis, for example), then you can not go to the dentist, but follow the recommendations and be calm. Otherwise, a dentist consultation is required.

You’ll come home and feel sorry for yourself there. ” In addition to these remarks, she pushed me all the time - sit down one way or another, did everything casually, sloppy. And even when, after this hell, I tried to get out of the chair, she kicked my legs with the words that she had not yet allowed me to stand up and now she will give me recommendations for further actions

And, I also forgot to say that in the process of tooth extraction the doctor actively used a hammer. In my opinion, she used all the tools that she had on me. When, finally, she managed to tear out this damned tooth, she broke my upper lip with an instrument in the process.

I am 38 years old. I am the mother of 2 children. And I have never experienced such a hell in my life. In general, I came home just in a terrible, depressed state, with a swollen cheek and the same swollen and broken lip! My family was just in shock, as, indeed, I was. Before this incident, I had the experience of tooth extraction in a private clinic. It is just heaven and earth. Everything is clean and sterile there, the staff is friendly there - they will calm down, give water to drink, and open the window if it gets bad. They work with modern tools and materials. I WILL NEVER GO TO BUDGET DENTISTRY! And I do not advise you.

The third day, the roots of the lower wisdom tooth on the left were removed (the tooth was sealed, crumbled over time). I removed it from a local dentist at a local clinic (payment is 5 times cheaper than from a private trader). I came with a picture of the tooth, time for the patient was allotted for half an hour (by appointment). Removing the roots took 15-20 minutes (I had to pick out the broken off root). Anesthesia was carried out by injection of gum ubistizin (bitter taste, action after 5 minutes). There was practically no pain (it was felt when the doctor pressed the bone with a tool in the hole). The dentist worked alone, there is no assistant on staff. During the manipulations, people enter the office and distract with questions. In a private clinic this is not, remove teeth in a separate room. The specialist’s attitude is normal, during the deletion he explained all the points. Then, with a swab in her mouth, she walked home with great relief that everything was behind. At home I read on the Internet about further actions after tooth extraction ... The doctor did not have time to paint everything, because the next patient went by appointment. I subsequently did not take painkillers, the pain is tolerable. Yesterday and today I did baths with chamomile broth (you just need to keep a warm broth in your mouth for a minute)

Is it necessary to drink an antibiotic if there is a temperature for 2 days after tooth extraction 37.5-38.7?

    • Hello Oleg. Antibiotics are taken only in strict accordance with the appointment of the attending physician who knows all the details of the clinical picture. The presence of temperature on the second day after tooth extraction is not the only determining factor.
